The project aims at establishing links to African libraries in order to support common projects between the University of Basel and African universities. The supply with information is perceived as being a precondition for a fruitful collaboration in research and learning activities. Since university libraries are usually not in the focus of international library development programmes, this project could be a groundbreaking undertaking.

The first objective of the activities is to discuss possibilities for collaboration in one or several workshops held at the partner library in order to recognise and define the fields of activities.

Further activities could involve:

–  Creating a network of libraries in Switzerland and African universities in order to exchange and discuss new developments concerning e-media and e-only policies.
–  Organizing workshops in order to train local librarians concerning e-media management, acquisition policies, and retrieving.
–  Organizing lectures and workshops for new professionals concerning the field of e-media.

Contacts have been established to the Kenyatta University Library in Nairobi, Kenya and the University Library of Addis Abeba, Ethiopia.
