AIT-SASBI Start-ups expected in Basel

At the occasion of the Annual The AIT-SASBI Conference, held this year from 22nd – 23rd February 2023 in Johannesburg, South Africa, under the common theme of “Social and tech driven innovation for impact” 5 start-up companies from Rwanda, South Africa and Nigeria, preselected by their national agencies or regional hub universities, were chosen as winners by a high-profile jury of Swiss market experts for one of the Swiss Residency seats.

The Swiss Residency Week will start on Sun 18th of June with the arrival of participants, offer networking and business opportunities during five days in Basel and 3 days in Zurich and end with the departure on Sun 25th June. During these days, Swiss flagship institutions like EMPA will be visited, the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property (IGE.IPI) as well as FH Ost are on the visiting agenda as well as contacts to Impact Hubs, Innovation and Tech Transfer Offices.

Participating Startups

Igugu Clean Tech, Lola Green, One Trail, and Rwanda Green Lighting as well as Zaio who qualified already in 2022.

The Start-ups will be accompanied by the Coordinators of their respective institutions.

Igugu Clean Tech (South Africa) aims to produce biodiesel from nicotine-free tobacco plants for a cleaner, more environmentally friendly option than traditional diesel.
The founder is Ms Zinhle Ngidi.
